Butterflies of North Texas

I live 25 miles north of Dallas, in Texas USA. We see more open spaces than trees. I live in a land of wildflowers, butterflies, and birdsong. "Butterflies of North Texas" seeks to capture these places, for a passing moment. Each song accompanies an image.

I created the songs here with a software synthesizer called Sawcutter 2.0, through which I processed a number of samples I created, including the following:

--crystal being tapped with a mallet

--an ocarina

--my voice

--me whistling

--creating a musical instrument from a diet root beer bottle filled with water to create a woodwind sound

--a stylophone

and many other devices.

I took the pictures here with simple point-and-shoot cameras, including in particular the Argus DC-5185. All the images are were taken in Collin or Dallas County, Texas, in places suburban and rural. The photos are unenhanced, except for the Grass Skipper, which looked so cool with a little Holga effect.
